As part of our ongoing nurture initiative, some pupils attend The Table every two weeks, The Table is a fantastic resource for the local community that we are incredibly proud to be part of, see below for further information

Rose Hill, Holywell

For two years, the £2 Food Club in St Peter’s has provided much needed practical, spiritual and emotional support to our community and now we are re-launching as ‘The Table’, which hopes to make this project sustainable for the long-term.

What is the Table?

The Table is run by St Peter’s Church in Holywell to support all in our community. There are no barriers to attending and we are open to all. There are a number of aspects to the Table and you can read about them here.

Eating Together

At the heart of the Table is the chance to enjoy a free lunch together, to meet with friends old and new and support each other. You can drop in anytime between 12 and 1.30 for lunch and a chance to chat.

The Pantry

The Table will always have a supply of food and other essentials for all those who come. There will be no barriers to using the Pantry.

While we’re open for lunch (12 – 1.30), you’ll be able to go into the Pantry and get a selection of things to stock up your cupboards. The exact amount will depend on what we have received.

We suggest a £2 donation, if you are able, so that this part of the Table can continue.

Sign-Posting and Support

At the Table, we’ll always have someone to lend a listening ear and provide pastoral care and support – which is open to people of all faiths and none.

As well as a listening ear, we can signpost you to a range of other sources of help.

Bread of Life

The Table always begins with a gathering at the Lord’s Table to share worship in a reflective service, to which all are welcome. Whether you’ve been to church all your life or you’re not sure about any of it, you’re welcome to come and enjoy the service.

The service starts at 11.30am and lasts for 30 mins.

As you’ll all know, the Table  has been running in St Peter’s since the beginning of the pandemic and has supported over 3000 people in our community with food and a place to be signposted to other sources of support.

The donation was made as part of Holywell Town Council’s Eco Uniform initiative.  The Town Council runs the Eco Uniform Hub on the third Thursday of the month from 10.00am until 1.00pm at the Events Hub (opposite Tesco Car Park).  

Parents donate unwanted uniforms which can then be used again.  When parents get the uniforms they can make a voluntary donation and these donations are collected and presented in rotation to the local schools.

The Eco Uniform initiative not only supports the local community and schools but also supports the environment by reducing the carbon footprint associated with buying new clothes.

This year was particularly tough for the Mayor to judge as the standard throughout the schools was particularly high, along with the enthusiasm from pupils and staff for managing their green spaces with some fantastic sustainability and recycling projects as part of this.

We want to congratulate our deserved winners this year Ysgol Maes y Felin.

“Congratulations to the dedicated staff and the pupils for their fantastic efforts for Wales in Bloom. Their hard work in sustainability, horticulture, and caring for the environment shines through in every aspect of their work. The team clearly worked hard to bring colour, life, and pride to their school environment. 

The commitment shown not only teaches valuable skills but also nurtures a sense of responsibility for the world around us. I want to thank everyone involved for their creativity, passion, and teamwork in making such a positive difference.”

What a special afternoon we had on Friday June 13th.

21 of our pupils went along to the dementia cafe at St Peter’s Church.

It was lovely to hear about life experiences from the adults present and share the enthusiasm of youth too, a brilliant intergenerational afternoon where both groups gained positively from our interactions. Diolch to Jane for inviting us.

We had a great time with artist Tim Pugh – pupils created their own Top Trumps themed drawing activity, sketching rescued beach toys whilst engaging in issues related to plastic pollution. It was lovely to see toys, previously abandoned to the sea being played with again and sketched out for their own individual card.
