Elklan is a course which aims to support parents to;
•Understand why children have difficulty learning to talk
•Know how to help your child understand what you are saying to him or her.
•Interact at an appropriate level with your child.
•Know how to help your child develop his or her talking.
•Change the way you speak to your child so that s/he understand more of what is said.
•Support information about normal speech and language development; and provide an illustrated workbook full of practical tips and ideas which provides a rich source of individualised strategies and information to support your child.
Practioners from Flying Start run the course and provide a free crèche to enable as many parents as possible to attend.
We are hoping to run this course again in 2018/19 aimed at Nursery and Early Entitlement parents and will be running it during school session times so hopefully the crèche will be able to accommodate any younger siblings as needed.
